When you're riding for an extended period of time, a dead battery on your mobile phone can be a concern. Android and iPhone battery drain happens even faster when you're using GPS apps, like Strava or Google Maps to help you navigate while riding your eBike.
Some eBike models, like the Denago Fat Tire eBike, allow you to power external devices via a built-in USB port. The Denago Fat Tire eBike has a USB type A port located on the display, for example, into which you can plug your mobile phone or GPS charger. Here's how to do it:
Charging your mobile phone from the Denago Fat Tire eBike USB port
On this model, there are two methods to turn on the USB port and make charging possible:
Method #1
- Start with the eBike powered off.
- Remove the rubber boot covering the USB port - you can find it on the bottom of the display. It has a built-in "leash" so it can hang freely when not in use.
- Plug in your charging cable and device.
- Power up the eBike, the USB port will now be active and you can see the "charging" icon or indicator on your device.
Method #2
- If your eBike is already powered on (for example, you want to start charging mid-ride)
- Remove the rubber boot covering the USB port - you can find it on the bottom of the display. It has a built-in "leash" so it can hang freely when not in use.
- Plug in your charging cable and device.
- On the handlebar remote, press the "up", "down", and "power/mode" buttons all at the same time.
- The USB port is now active and you can see the "charging" icon or indicator on your device.
With the USB port on your Denago Fat Tire eBike turned on, you can now power a variety of devices that charge or operate over USB. When you're done riding, don't forget to remove the charging cable and replace the rubber cover that protects the USB port from dirt, water, or debris.
Happy riding!
